What Clients Have Said

These are the kinds of conversations that come back to us — some by email, some said at collection, a few written down.

Brought in my father's old Seiko that hadn't run in years. I wasn't expecting much — but they called to say what they'd found before starting anything. That alone put me at ease. The movement came back running well and the intake record was a nice touch for something with personal history.

I went in for the Welcome Check because I wasn't sure if the watch needed anything serious. Turned out it was fine — just a clean and some adjustments. I appreciated that no one pushed me toward a more expensive option. Straightforward and honest, which I didn't necessarily expect.

I had a vintage Omega with a slightly sticky crown and some scratches on the case. Brought it here on a recommendation and was impressed by how the conversation went — specific, calm, no pressure. They matched the brushed finish on the case perfectly. It left looking the way it should, not over-polished.

Three watches serviced here over the past couple of years. Each time, the process is the same — careful, communicated, and done when they said it would be. The rate testing after the service is something I've come to expect; I'd honestly find it odd if it were missing now.

My late mother's watch — a small Citizen automatic from the 1980s — had been sitting in a drawer for a long time. I wasn't sure it could be brought back. The consultation was patient and honest: they explained what was realistic and what wasn't. The watch runs quietly now. That's enough.

Found Crownworks after getting a disappointing job done elsewhere — the finish on my watch had been over-polished when it should have kept its satin surface. These people understood immediately what I meant. The service was professional and the communication was better than I expected from a small workshop. Won't go anywhere else now.

Detailed Journeys

Three Watches, Three Different Stories

The Challenge

A Daily-Worn Automatic Running Inconsistently

A client brought in a modern automatic worn daily for seven years, never serviced. The movement was running several minutes fast per day, and the bracelet had accumulated significant surface marks. The owner wanted it back in normal use without changing its worn character entirely.

The Approach

Service & Polish, Surfaces Matched

Findings were shared before work began: the movement needed a full service, the mainspring was weak, and the bracelet had mixed brushed and polished surfaces that required careful matching rather than a blanket re-polish. Scope was agreed with the owner before proceeding.

The Outcome

Running Within +/- 5 Sec/Day

After service, the watch ran within the standard accuracy range on the timegrapher. The bracelet surfaces were matched to their original specification. The client collected after 10 days — within the quoted timeframe. "It feels like the same watch, just working properly again."

The Challenge

A Vintage Piece That Had Been in Storage for Decades

A family heirloom — a Swiss hand-wound pocket watch from the early 1960s — was brought in by a client who had inherited it and wanted it assessed. It hadn't run in at least 20 years. The crown was stuck and the crystal was cracked.

The Approach

Bespoke Restoration — Consultation First

An initial consultation set expectations clearly: the mainspring and a worn jewel would need replacement; an original-profile crystal could be sourced but would take time. A written proposal was prepared before any work began. The client was kept updated at each stage and approved all parts decisions.

The Outcome

Restored and Running Quietly

The watch was returned running within an acceptable range for the calibre's age. The new crystal matched the original profile. Full photographic documentation was provided with the service record. "I wasn't expecting it to run again at all. The fact that it does is more than I hoped for."

The Challenge

Uncertainty About Whether a Watch Needed Work

A client came in with a quartz watch that seemed fine but had a slightly irregular seconds hand. They weren't sure if it was a fault, normal wear, or something to ignore. They had limited time and no interest in a larger service if it wasn't needed.

The Approach

Welcome Check — No Further Work Needed

The Welcome Check was the right starting point. Assessment found a loose stem — a minor issue — and a battery approaching the end of its cycle. Both were resolved within the scope of the service. The movement was otherwise in good condition. No upsell, no additional recommendation.

The Outcome

Clean Bill of Health, Ready to Continue

The watch was collected two days later in good order. The client left with a clear picture of the watch's condition and advice on when to return. "Exactly what I needed — an honest answer, not a sales pitch."
